Police officials in Mexico say a former mayor who had shrugged off earlier attempts on her life has been found dead in a field, apparently murdered.
The state prosecutor’s office in Michoacan said the body of 35-year-old Maria Santos Gorrostieta Salazar was found on an empty lot alongside a highway by residents passing by in Cuitzeo municipality in the western state of Michoacan.
Her family had reported her missing three days ago.
The 36-year-old woman was the former mayor of Tiquicheo, an area where local criminal groups battle for control.
Officials said Saturday that the body had the hands tied and had received a strong blow to the back of the neck.
The body was found Thursday, but was not identified until Friday.
There had been at least two unsuccessful attempts on Gorrostieta’s life in the past, including a shooting that killed her husband in October 2009.
She said after treatment for her injuries that she had no idea why she had been targeted, that she had nothing to hide and would not give up her ideals.
More than 20 mayors have been murdered in Mexico in the past six years.

アメリカの食糧が安く手に入るという恩恵があったんだけど、
バイオ燃料の絡みで値段が高騰、
